Stony Brook to our lot is about fifteen minutes — Route 347 to Route 112 north, and Family Automotive Center is at 1575 Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station. Since 2011 we’ve been the family-owned answer for Stony Brook residents, university staff, and students who need a dependable car or a mechanic who explains things straight.
We’re both: a full-service repair shop and a used car dealer, under one roof, with every car inspected in our own bays before it’s sold.

For students & first-time buyers
A dependable used car near campus, without big-lot pressure — that’s most of what we sell. And if you’re a first-time buyer with little or no U.S. credit history, our lenders have first-time-buyer programs; steady income matters more than a long credit file. The application takes minutes and we’ll tell you your real budget before you pick the car.
Graduating and leaving Long Island? We buy cars too — drive it in for an appraisal.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get there from Stony Brook University?
Route 347 east to Route 112, then north about two miles — 1575 Route 112, Port Jefferson Station. Roughly fifteen minutes from campus.
Can an international student with no U.S. credit buy a car?
Often, yes. Lender programs vary, and income and down payment carry the most weight. Bring your license (or valid foreign license where permitted), proof of income or support, and we’ll walk through the options honestly — no promises we can’t keep.
Do you help with cars that need to pass inspection to be registered?
Every day. We inspect, and if something fails we can repair and re-inspect — often same-day. Call 631-923-2358 before you come so we can plan it.
