What village driving does to a car
Port Jefferson's hills are steep, and short trips up and down them are hard on brakes. Winter salt on the roads works its way into brake lines, exhaust parts and suspension. Stop-and-go traffic in the summer adds heat and wear.
If your brakes squeal or grind, the steering pulls, or a warning light comes on, bring it in. We look at it, tell you what we found and what it costs, and do nothing until you say yes.
Signs it should come in sooner
Some problems get worse, and more expensive, the longer they wait:
- a brake pedal that feels soft or sinks lower than it used to
- grinding or scraping when you stop
- a burning smell after a climb up one of the village hills
- a steering wheel that shakes at highway speed
- a temperature gauge that climbs in summer traffic
- a check engine light that flashes
A flashing check engine light usually means the engine is misfiring. Stop driving if you can and call the service desk.
Inspections, oil changes and bigger repairs
We are an official New York State inspection station. Oil changes and inspections can walk in during open hours, or you can book a time online.
Brakes, check engine lights, air conditioning, suspension, exhaust and engine work start with a written estimate. Our team includes ASE-certified technicians, and our repairs carry a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty, honored here at our shop.
You can call or text the service desk, or book online and pick the day that works for you.
Booking a visit
Book online any time and pick the day that suits you, or call or text the service desk. Tell us what the car is doing, when it started and anything you have noticed, and we plan the time it needs.
If you can wait while we work, say so when you book. For a longer repair, plan to drop the car off in the morning.
